Clever Allemont

Former Washington sire Clever Allemont, who began
his career at stud at Rainier Stables in Enumclaw in 1989, was rescued in
mid-December after being discovered at the property of a kill buyer
in Kansas. The stallion was shipped to Old Friends retirement home in
Georgetown, Kentucky, to live out the rest of his days.
Foaled in 1982, Clever Allemont won the Rebel and
Southwest Stakes at Oaklawn Park and also placed in three graded stakes, led by
a third in the Arlington Classic Stakes (G1). The son of Clever
TrickAllemont, by *Carlemont, who was trained by D. Wayne Lukas and Lynn
Whiting, won eight races and earned $316,229.
Clever Allemont, who was blinded in one eye, had
most recently been breeding Quarter Horse mares in Kansas and was rescued by
Kristin Chambers, the executive director of the Kansas-based Winding Road
Equine Rescue and Retirement. It was just
such a chain of miracles, said Chambers, who was gratified to learn that
Clever Allemont had been invited to reside at the Kentucky center within hours
of posting Clever Allemonts story online.
