Cover Rates: Covers are priced on multiple insertion contracts and priced at the following rates for each insertion: inside front cover $975; inside back cover $925; outside back cover (availabe for the months of January, February, April, May, July, August, October and November) $1,075. Production costs outlined below also apply to ads created by the staff of Washington Thoroughbred.
Color Rates: $175 per page for each additional color (blue, yellow or red). Specific PMS colors will be charged at $295 per color or matched as closely as possible only if four-color process is used in the magazine and available for screening. Additional screen charges may be applicable (see Mechanical Charges below).
Four-color Process: $525 per page, in addition to the cost of the space, plus the cost of separations (unless provided by the advertiser). Contact the editor regarding the cost of separations. Contract discount rates apply on space only.
Special Position: To guarantee preferred position, if available, $25 additional per page.
Mechanical Charges: Special processing production charges (i.e., screens, reverses, etc.) will be passed on to the advertiser. Black screens/phantom halftones, $25; color reproductions (photos, stable colors, etc.) $50; color screen builds $35 per screen; reverse (white type) out of black $25; reverse (white type) out of color $45; shrinks/spreads $30; halftone scans $25 (subsequent use of same halftone scan will be allowed at no charge).
Miscellaneous Charges: Computer printouts, photo order charges and any other outside costs will be passed on to the advertiser.
The advertising rates are
determined by the total amount of space contracted for at the beginning of a
certain time period to be used within one calendar year from the initial month
of advertising. There will be no rebates once a contract is signed.
The horsemen's rates will apply to Thoroughbred and
Quarter Horse breeders, owners and trainers when advertising stallions, horses
for sale and boarding and training services.
Contracts for a minimum of six months include one
insertion in the March Annual Review. Advertisers with contracts for
six months or longer will be billed 40% above their contract rate for
additional space in the Annual Review.
Terms: Net due 15 days after billing. If paid within 10 days of billing date, a 5% discount applies (no discount for classified advertising). Interest charges of 18% will be applied to any unpaid balance after 60 days. Accounts that remain delinquent for 90 days will incur and must pay an additional 5% late fee with interest continuing until the balance is paid in full.
Advertising agencies: Recognized advertising agencies which furnish complete copy, art and lay-outs are allowed the standard 15% commission on space only. All other charges apply and are not discounted. If an account is not paid within 90 days from the first invoice date, the agency commission is forfeited entirely, and Washington Thoroughbred reserves the right to bill the client directly.
Closing date for all
advertising copy, artwork, etc. is the tenth (10th) of the month prior to the
month of insertion (i.e., April 10 for May issue). Classified ads will be
accepted until the 15th of the month prior to the month of insertion.
When copy and insertion instructions are not received
when due, the 10th of the month prior to the month of insertion, publisher
reserves the right to repeat the last ad.
Cancellation or changes in advertising order will not
be accepted after the closing date.
All
accounts which have been past due for more than 90 days will have no new
advertising accepted until amount due had been paid in full.

Fill out Electronic Prepress Output Form
(provided on request) or supply a complete information sheet.
Include FINAL digital proofs (color files should
include a composite and separations).
Preferred software is PageMaker 7.0 for PC (IBM compatible). Also acceptable
(PC or Macintosh format) are: Quark, Freehand, Illustrator, InDesign and high
resolution PDF files (press-optimized, fonts and images embedded).
Images must be CMYK or grayscale, TIFF or EPS,
between 300 and 400 dpi, right reading, portrait mode only, 100% size, no
rotations, scanned at high resolution. We do not adjust color on digital
images. If possible, please supply a hard copy proof with digital images.
All colors must be CMYK converted. No Pantone
colors, please. If Pantone is supplied, Washington Thoroughbred will
match the color out of process. We do not take responsibility for any color
variations resulting from this conversion.
Ad submission on CD is preferred. We will also accept floppy diskette, Zip
disk, Jaz disk and e-mail. Please specify whether Macintosh or PC (IBM
compatible).
See below for specific information regarding images taken on a
digital camera.
Acceptance of copy is
subject to editor's approval.
Advertiser agrees to
relieve Washington Thoroughbred and its employees of responsibility from
any and/or all claims and suits arising out of publication of advertising based
on information supplied by advertiser.
Advertiser
may provide camera-ready copy. Washington Thoroughbred will assist in
composing advertising and will not charge for typesetting or simple
artwork.
Halftones should be 133-line screen. Black
and white 5" x 7" glossy photographs are preferred, unless color is being used
or otherwise instructed. Furnished negatives should be right reading, emulsion
side down. Hand-set headlines, screens, reverses and/or additional artwork
production charges will be passed on to the advertiser. Charges for halftones
and line prints (pictures, charts and any artwork which must be changed from
the original form to camera-ready artwork) will be passed on to the advertiser.
Important Information for Digital Camera
Users
Note: Camera settings must be made before the
picture is taken.
FOR PRINT in the
magazine: Set your camera to Best, Fine or Super Fine quality . We will
then adjust the file to the required 300 dpi resolution. We are unable to
make the proper adjustment with images shot at lower quality levels.
FOR WEB: Set your camera to Standard or
Economy quality. Image will be saved at the default resolution of 72 dpi
which is standard for Web viewing.
Please refer to
your cameras operating manual for making the appropriate settings.
Washington
Thoroughbred, a member of American Horse Publications, is a monthly
publication of the Washington Thoroughbred Breeders Association and covers all
aspects of the Thoroughbred breeding and racing industry in Washington. It
includes the March Annual Review, December Stallion Register, the
Farm and Service Directory and The Oregon Horse (four times a
year).
Circulation is mainly in Washington and the
Pacific northwest, including Oregon, British Columbia and Idaho, as well as
Montana, California and Kentucky.
Washington
Thoroughbred reaches most of the owners, breeders, trainers and members of
the Thoroughbred community in Washington, as well as all members of the Oregon
Thoroughbred Breeders Association. Our goal is to cover all aspects of the
Thoroughbred world in the northwest.
