US Olympic Moments

The US Olympic Equestrian Jumping Team retained their Olympic champion title after winning a jump-off – the first in Olympic history – to hold off a strong challenge from the Canadian team. Norway took the bronze medal. The US team consisted of Will Simpson and his mount Carlsson Vom Dach, Laura Kraut and Cedric, Beezie Madden and Authentic – who won the individual jumping bronze – and McLain Ward and Sapphire.

Washington’s own US Olympic Eventers Amy Tryon and Poggio II (Chesterstimetofly) are shown going through the first horse inspection (above) and competing in the dressage portion of the competition (below). Tryon unfortunately fell during the cross-country phase – neither she nor Poggio were injured. The US eventing team, which had won the bronze medal in 2004, finished in seventh place in 2008. Team-mate Gina Mills won the individual silver medal in eventing.
