Youthful Moment

Youthful Moment,
by Kristy Batie

A blissful interlude between a pony horse and a young fan at Emerald Downs.

Like Mother, Like Daughter

Like Mother, Like Daughter,
by Diane Karl

J.B.’s Phoebe, by Boca Rio, and her filly by He’s Tops romp in stride. Diane writes: The foal’s track name will be Phoebe’s Top Speed, while her barn name is Speedee. She was bred by Sharon Lulham, owner of J.B.’s Phoebe, and myself. I’ve been following horses since Sharon had Phoebe (a winner herself) at the track. I remember when He’s Tops ran and saw each of his races. Then a couple years ago I mentioned to Sharon that we should breed Phoebe to him. The foal was born on March 16. She’s a pretty, bright filly. When people see her they often say how big her back end is. We chuckle and say, “Yeah, it’s the one time that you can be proud of a ‘girl’ having a big butt!” We’re hoping for as much power out of her back end as her mom and dad had. We look forward to very exciting races and lots of fun as she grows and heads to the track. The photo was taken at Four Star Farm in Graham.
