February 2009

The extreme weather over the past month or so – from snow to widespread flooding – inspired numerous submissions from Western Washington. Here is a sampling . . .

Griffin wrote, “Here are some photos of the horses that I took in from the farm in Enumclaw that flooded. I was just happy to help. I know what it’s like to have a personal disaster after our house burned down, and I remember how great it was to have people jump in and help. This gave me great pleasure to give something back.” Mary Lou and husband Terry breed and raise Thoroughbreds at their Griffin Place in Buckley.

“I took these photos at the farm where I board my horse. This is a horse that recently retired off the track. His name is Rhythm in the Nite, by Rhythm out of Bonnet’s Bounty. He raced in California and then at the end of the season here at Emerald Downs. Meika [Decher] picked him up at the end of the season and is currently training him for three-day eventing. As you can see he is really enjoying the snow out on the cross country course.” Meika and her husband own Polestar Farm in Lake Stevens.
